Live in Dallas and wondering, “Will someone actually come pick up my car near me for free?” With Wheels for Wellness, the answer is yes. We arrange a $0 pickup anywhere in the DFW Metroplex—whether you’re in East Dallas, Oak Cliff, Lake Highlands, Plano, Irving, Arlington, Garland, or out near Rockwall and Denton. You don’t drive the car to us. We send a local tow operator directly to your driveway, apartment lot, or workplace. Running or not, your vehicle can still help support services for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Here’s how it works: you call us or submit the online form, we confirm your Dallas-area address and preferred pickup window, and then we dispatch a nearby flatbed or hook-and-chain truck at no cost to you. On pickup day, you simply leave the signed title and keys with the vehicle as instructed. Our towing partner loads it up, you receive a tax receipt by mail, and the towing cost is covered from the charity’s sale proceeds—not billed back to you. In most of Dallas and close-in suburbs, pickups happen within a few business days, with slightly longer routing times for more rural North Texas addresses.
How to schedule your free local pickup
1. Tell us about your vehicle and where in DFW it sits
Call or fill out our secure online form with your contact information, your Dallas-area address, and basic vehicle details. Let us know if it’s in a driveway in Lakewood, a parking garage in Downtown, or a side street in Mesquite so we can match the right truck and plan access.
2. Choose a pickup window that fits your schedule
We’ll call to confirm a pickup day and time window that works for you. In most of Dallas, Plano, Richardson, and Arlington, we can schedule within a few business days. More rural locations outside the core DFW Metroplex may take a little longer as we coordinate tow routes.
3. Prepare the title, keys, and vehicle location
Before pickup, remove personal items, gather the vehicle title, and follow our instructions for signing it under Texas rules. Place the title and keys where the driver can easily find them—often in the glove box or with a building concierge if you won’t be home.
4. Park for easy access by a tow truck
If possible, park your vehicle where a flatbed can reach it: at the front of your driveway, along an accessible street in places like Bishop Arts or Lower Greenville, or in a clearly marked guest space. Let us know about low clearances, security gates, or tight alleys so we can plan ahead.
5. Our local tow partner picks it up for $0
A licensed local towing company serving the Dallas area will arrive during your confirmed window, load the vehicle, and handle all logistics. You pay nothing—towing is fully covered from the eventual sale proceeds and never billed back to you, no matter the condition.
6. Receive your tax receipt and know you helped
Once your vehicle is sold, Wheels for Wellness mails you a tax receipt. Most donors are eligible for at least a $500 deduction; for amounts over $500, you’ll use IRS Form 1098-C. We’re happy to explain the basics, though we always suggest confirming details with your tax professional.
Local pickup gotchas
Tight alleys, garages, or low clearances in older Dallas neighborhoods
Tip: Areas like Oak Cliff, Deep Ellum, and parts of East Dallas can have narrow streets and low parking structures. Tell us exactly where the car sits so we can send the right truck and, if needed, arrange a street-side meeting spot the driver can safely access.
Gated communities, apartment complexes, and HOA rules
Tip: In complexes around Addison, Las Colinas, or Uptown, gate codes, parking permits, and HOA rules can slow pickup. Share gate codes, building names, permit requirements, and any towing restrictions when you schedule so our driver isn’t turned away at the entrance.
Very rural or far-edge North Texas addresses
Tip: If you’re outside the main DFW Metroplex—toward Kaufman County, Wise County, or beyond—pickups may take a bit longer as we coordinate less frequent tow routes. Be flexible on days, and we’ll match you with the next available local partner headed through your area.
Missing or incorrect Texas title at pickup
Tip: A missing or improperly signed Texas title can delay or complicate your donation. Before scheduling, locate your title and verify that the name matches the registration. If you’ve lost it or there’s a name change, we can explain your options for getting it corrected with the Texas DMV.
If at-home pickup is tricky
If at-home pickup isn’t simple for your situation—for example, your vehicle is in a tight underground garage in Downtown, stuck inoperable behind another car in a crowded Oak Lawn lot, or stored at a mechanic in Grand Prairie—talk with us about alternatives. Sometimes we can meet you at a nearby open lot, coordinate with a property manager, or pick up from a repair shop that has easier tow access. On rare occasions, driving the vehicle a short distance to a more accessible spot within your neighborhood can make the free pickup much faster and smoother.
Dallas pickup coverage
Wheels for Wellness serves donors throughout Dallas and the broader DFW Metroplex—from North Dallas, Preston Hollow, and Lake Highlands down through Oak Cliff and Duncanville, and across to suburbs like Frisco, McKinney, Grand Prairie, and Fort Worth. In denser areas like Uptown or Knox/Henderson, scheduling is usually quick but access planning is crucial; in outlying Texas communities, routing can take an extra day or two. For Texas titles, you’ll typically sign over ownership and remove your plates; the buyer or dismantler handles re-titling. We’ll walk you through what to sign and how to cancel insurance after pickup.
